I don’t really know what you mean by urban life, but I will try my best.
During summer, it’s pretty hot. I remember, as a child, I always played with my friends in the shade of a building somewhere during the day. People usually go shopping or just stay home (or work) during the day. Around 6 or 7, many just watch tv shows at home. After dinner, people of almost all ages come out and just socialize and play games outside. Elders usually play chess, cards and dominos. Teens date, hang out, play basketball or something else. Young adults may be drinking and clubbing or just hanging out. Few go to the pool or go on a short camping trips. Middle aged people usually just stay home (or I actually don’t know much). Also many families go to their summer houses (not yurt) in the countryside to relax. Children go swimming in the lake/river (I hear the rivers are drying out ) and pick wild fruits. It is so easy to make friends just by sitting outside in your neighborhood during summer nights, since most people are just hanging out and socializing outside.
During winter though, it is so cold that you would not really see that many people hanging out outside. But still, you’d see children and teens playing in the snow during the day. Or they’d hang out at a cafe, since there are not that much after school clubs and activities in Mongolia. Guys usually just play video games or pool, and girls hang out at each other’s place. Since the air in the city is polluted during winter due to burning of coals and such, families take occasional trips to countryside or nearby some sort of resort, where they can go on sleigh or ski, or just to get some fresh air.
Spring is a love season, but it is not really favorable for many Mongolians with its unpredictable weather: hot one day or raining, snowing the next day; and too much wind and dust everywhere.
Fall/Autumn is pretty though. Smell of rain and falling leaves as you take a walk down the road is just really relaxing. And can’t forget the first snow.
That was just a memory from years ago though. Judging from people’s facebook pictures, many seem to be just chilling at some lounges or partying most of the time now.
